Rav Wilding shares home security tips and reflects on meeting Jeff Goldblum

The TV presenter and security expert reveals simple ways to improve home security and reduce risk at Ideal Home Show 2026 in partnership with Selina Finance

Rav Wilding shared expert advice on how to better protect your home during his appearance at the Ideal Home Show, offering straightforward, effective steps to reduce the risk of burglary.

Alongside his practical tips, Rav also reflected on his career highlights, including winning a BAFTA for Scam Interceptors, describing it as “like the Olympics of TV”, and the surreal moment he found himself giving a speech while Jeff Goldblum sat in the front row nodding along.

Securing your home effectively

Rav emphasised that many burglaries are preventable with simple measures.

“25% of burglaries happen through an open door or window,” he noted, highlighting the importance of always locking doors and windows, even when stepping out briefly.

Upgrading older locks to recognised security standards and ensuring windows have restrictors can provide an added layer of protection.

Making your home look occupied

Creating the impression that someone is home can act as a strong deterrent.

Using timer lights, TV simulation technology and asking neighbours to help manage bins or post can reduce the risk when you are away.

Visible security features such as alarm systems and doorbell cameras can also discourage opportunistic intruders.

Protecting valuables and vehicles

Rav encouraged homeowners to register valuables and mark them for identification, making it easier to recover stolen items.

He also highlighted the growing risk of keyless car theft, advising the use of Faraday pouches and physical security devices to protect vehicles.

Staying alert to modern risks

Beyond physical security, Rav warned about digital scams and social media habits.

Avoid sharing holiday plans in real time and always verify suspicious messages before responding or providing personal information.

Taking simple steps for greater security

Rav’s advice shows that improving home security does not require complex solutions.

By combining awareness, preparation and a few practical changes, homeowners can significantly reduce risk and feel more confident in their home’s safety.
