Frame favourite artwork

Gather prints, paintings and collages that you love and mount them in frames. Choose pieces that work within the colour palette of your decorating scheme.

Pick different frames in various sizes for a relaxed display or matching designs and sizes for a controlled and streamlined feel.

Cut paper templates of each frame and tack them to the wall. Swap and reposition them until you are happy with the display. Tap in nails for lightweight frames and drill holes for Rawlplugs and screws for heavier pieces.

Display a selection of unframed photographs

Old photographs make wonderfully interesting talking points.

Scan and print out family photographs onto good quality photo paper if you don’t fancy using originals. Keep them the same size for a trellis effect or have a loser arrangement with a mix of sizes.

Fill a whole wall, an alcove or a just a small section of wall and use wallpaper paste to stick them in place. Apply a clear matt varnish over the top for added durability.

Hang a self-adhesive mural

Large-scale decals and murals have been increasing in popularity over the past few years and they make a great alternative to wallpaper.

Look for a design that suits your room and reflects your interests. There are some brilliant inventive designs around for children’s rooms. This city square mural is colourful and welcoming in a hallway.

Pick a mix of posters

Posters are an indicator of our passions and choosing a selection for displaying in a living or dining  room is a great way to bring a personal touch to a decorative scheme.

Whether you love music, botanical art, vintage advertising, landscape photography, illustration or typography, a selection of your favourites will create great talking points for guests.

Tack in place in a grouping of your choice, or frame to preserve any much-loved pieces.

Showcase a collection of memorabilia

Free keepsakes from shoeboxes or scrapbooks and bring them into the light. Combine tickets, postcards, theatre programmes, dinner menus, maps and even much-loved babygrows for a display of family memorabilia.

Keep the collection loose, using frames for some items and panel pins or peg racks for hanging others. A pinboard is the perfect base for a wall decoration like this. Wrap with pretty ribbon so that you can tuck in smaller items without damaging them.

Hang your family pinboard in a kitchen as a morning pick-me up over the breakfast.
