Concept Product Award winner 2008 is announced

FootLume, an illuminating rug designed by Zoe Robinson and Leona Dean from London South Bank University has beaten 30 other finalists to be crowned the Daily Mail Ideal Home Show’s Concept Product Award 2008.

A stylishly decorative, pressure activated rug gently illuminates when stood on. It offers many functional benefits, such as; lighting your path if you wake in the night, eliminating the need to turn on main lights; acting as a gentle night light for a child or elderly person or providing ambient lighting at an intimate house party. Student designers Zoe and Leona say, “We are delighted to have been involved in Concept Products, especially at the Ideal Home Show Centenary year.” Asked to sum up their product they said, “FootLume is electroluminescent luxury, a must for all contemporary design-conscious homes”.

Launching innovative products is an integral part of the Ideal Home Show’s history and this year the tradition is maintained with an exceptional group of new products entered into the Concept Products Awards. Voted into 2nd place is the exciting eco design RWC (Recycled Water Closet) by Ines Sanchez from Ravensbourne College, which looks into the future of water recycling systems, storing grey water drained away from a hand basin in a toilet cistern for when its time to flush. In 3rd place is TEMPlateTM by Amanda Smith and Sarah Ginn from Kingston University, who created a temperature-controlled ceramic dinner plate that remains cool to touch even when used to heat food in an oven or microwave.
